Low Toxin & Intentional Baby Registry Guide
WEEEEE!!! Here it is. A mix of products we have used with our 2 girls PLUS new items that we have since learned about for our soon to be baby boy. Remember, less is more with a new baby. The goal of sharing this is to help streamline your discovery of low toxin and intentional baby products and brands (because GOSH does it take so much time to research and find). We hope this helps you and your family feel at peace with the products you purchase for your sweet babe.
When looking at items - here are a few things we do our best to avoid: flame retardants, formaldehyde, BPA and Phthalates, PVC, PFAS (which usually is anything “water resistant”. We also avoid Synthetic materials (we go for naturals materials such as linen, cotton, wool).
PREGNANCY & BEYOND:
Stretch mark prevention – I rotated between these 2 products and had great success. Applied daily after a shower and let it soak in.
PRIMALLY PURE BABY BALM (Use code DRCHARLIE for 20% off)
HONEYBEE HIPPIE natural mama tallow butter (Use code CHARLIE10 for 10% off)
Emotional Support during pregnancy - Andrea crafted these guided imagery recordings to support mom’s with any nerves around pregnancy, body & baby. LISTEN HERE.
Birth Prep - Andrea crafted this birth prep guided imagery recording to help you feel empowered, ready and confident in your birthing journey. LISTEN HERE.
Postpartum Healing – this bundle includes all the best necessities for your recovery and nourishing baby
HONEYBEE HIPPIE the natural mama bundle (Use code CHARLIE10 for 10% off)
Robe – I wanted something that I could get oily without totally ruining and something cozy for post shower. I used this thing more than I could imagine. HIGHLY recommend. They have different thicknesses for different seasons – just linking the one I used but explore for yourself!
NURSING:
BOOB PADS for leaks - So I have learned over the past 2 postpartum, that my boobs leak A LOT. It’s been next to impossible to find 100% natural material (ideally organic cotton) boob pads that actually work for a heavier leak. Breaking them down below based on what I have tried and what leak level they work best for.
(High leak levels) – Sadly, haven’t been able to find reusable 100% organic cotton inside with a waterproof outer shell. Everything is viscrose/bamboo which I generally do not support or buy because that tends to mean higher chemical processing. However, these are at Least 100% organic bamboo viscose and OEKO-TEX certified. Meaning they claim to not use harmful chemicals. Not ideal but sometimes just gotta do what ya gotta do. I used and plan to use again these for the first 6 ish months PP. If ANYONE has other more natural recs that work for a heavier leak, do tell! I’ll update here if I find any! SHOP HERE
(Medium/low leak levels) – I switched to these reusable 100% organic cotton nursing pads when I was about 7-8 months into my nursing journey. By then my leaking decreased but was def still there every time I nursed. Felt nice to have 100% organic cotton touching my nipples. But these did not work for me in the first chunk of time nursing. I would drip so much extra milk that they would soak through to my bra. SHOP HERE
(All leak levels) disposables – we didn’t use these often but was nice for specific situation to have throw away nusing pads on hand. The part that touches the skin is 100% organic cotton. SHOP HERE
Milk Catcher - ***HIGHLY recommend! I used with both of our other kiddos and collected so much extra milk. The one I used when nursing my older girls isn’t as clean as Id like so trying this one out instead – same concept but better materials! SHOP HERE
PJs for Mama- My favorite organic pjs for easy skin on skin access & nursing
Breastfeeding support recording: Andrea crafted these guided imagery recording to support you on your breast-feeding journey. They are intended to help your body relax and trust that you have everything you need and are capable of anything. Your body was made for this. LISTEN HERE.
BreastPUMPING support recording: LISTEN HERE.
BABY CARRIER:
Organic Cotton Baby Wrap- I’ve found it surprisingly difficult to find a baby wrap crafted with 100% organic cotton material. Since a newborn rests their face directly against the fabric, I’m being extra particular about the textiles I choose to use, especially in the newborn stage. Discount code: CURIOUSLYPRESENT
CRIB, MATTRESS, SHEETS:
Crib: Ideally you want to look for Greenguard Gold Certified. We tend to co-sleep with our kiddos. But once they get older – will nap them in the crib. Our 2nd , actually preferred the crib over our bed so she still sleeps in this one (we’ve had it for 6 years!): SHOP HERE
If I was in the market to buy a new crib – this is the one I’d go with. Simply STUNNING and meets the certifications Id be comfy with from a nontoxic perspective. But the Babyletto we have used for all our kids, is just such a good basic, just depends what style you are looking for.
Crib Mattress: This is the one we have.
Another crib mattress I would get if buying new – seems to be cleanest I can find.
Sheets: Ones we LOVE (have this brand for most of our beds).
Other options that are more budget-friendly and have been used and liked:
burt’s bees baby organic cotton or these one’s from the same brand
Travel Crib:
This is the one we got to stay at our parents’ houses – love how small and light and easy to carry
Nuna Sena Aire + Changer: One we have at our house for other travel – high quality but def heavier and harder to travel with.
Baby Lounger: (We will use in bed for sleeping purposes until he can roll over) We used the Snuggle me for both of our kids but don’t love how their filling isn’t natural materials. So we switched over and splurged a little on this Wool one! I think it will be worth every penny and sleep is the most important piece, its when our body heals so its incredibly important to notice what we will be breathing in.
Rocking Chair: Monte Design Grano Recliner Glider (discount at checkout with link) was an exciting new purchase for baby boy, we purchased it in Beach Brushed cotton/linen with brushed gold swivel base, non-motorized. You can add the ottoman (discount at checkout with link or use code CURIOUSLYPRESENT) add-on as optional; we skipped it because we went with the manual recliner option. We went manual recliner for EMF purposes and also went with the fabric of Beach Brushed Cotton-Linen to stick with natural materials - we would never choose a performance fabric because of the chemicals they need to use to make it performance. Everyone has raved that Monte is the best low-toxin rocking chair company and intentional brand. So far we are loving it!
DIAPERING:
Diapers: We LOVED Kudos (Use code CURIOUSLYPRESENT for 10% off) with our 2nd and plan to use them this time around too. Appreciate that the only thing that touches their skin is cotton! All about the natural fibers.
Wipes: I recently discovered RAAN wipes (Use link for 10% off), I am so excited to begin using this brand. They use minimal ingredients and unbleached cotton.
Diaper balm: PRIMALLY PURE Baby Balm (Use code DRCHARLIE for 20% off)
Diaper Pale: The main goal – no scents or deodorizers. Metal is supposed to be better for avoiding scents. We have always used the Ubbi (I like it but does start to smell over time and requires manual open and shut)
This is the other one I am deciding between. It is plastic to not sure if scent will be worse but the wave open function is nice and it looks pretty.
NATUREPEDIC Changing table Pad: (Use code CURIOUSLYPRESENT for a discount on this product)
Travel changing pads: I need something light and thin to throw in a bag. The ones I have, small and thin, fit in any bag. Simple.
One I will order to also test out as a back up, like that it has small pockets and easy to wipe down back side – thinking this will be best for airports and other more yucky spots. (This one isn’t organic cotton but is 100% cotton where baby touches. Not something I’d be using daily, so I’m ok with it not being organic).
Diaper Bag:
Baby Bouncer: We used the BabyBjorn with both girls and loved the concept but don’t love their materials. We will not be using it this time around. I’d prefer organic cotton AND finally found one that hits the mark!!! SHOP HERE (Use code CURIOUSLYPRESENT for a discount) Modern Nursery is one of my favorite “one-stop-shops” for all nontoxic Baby / Kid items.
STROLLER & CAR SEAT:
We have our Bumble Ride. BUT if we were to get another stroller especially one that can handle 3 kiddos we will go with the UPPAbaby Vista V3.
Stroller bag I treated myself too - not a necessity but so fun!
Car Seat: LOVE the brand Nuna all the way. All 3 of our kids have and will have Nuna carseats. Have found this to be one of the best carseat brands that care about toxin load AND safety.
PIPA RX CAR SEAT + RELX BASE: What we used and will use for baby
RAVA NEXT FR-FREE CONVERTIBLE CAR SEAT: What we use for our 3 year old (can use with newborn but it doesn’t have the function of coming in and out of car like Pipa one does)
EXEC NEXT CAR SEAT: What we use for our 6 year old (can use with newborn but it doesn’t have the function of coming in and out of car like Pipa one does)
BOTTLES:
I have always exclusively breastfed until about 6 ish months then we might start trying out a bottle with my frozen breastmilk if I need to leave or can’t be around at a feeding. We have had great success with these Dr. Brown’s Glass Bottles. We only would do the GLASS and we like the wide neck. I did hear that these potentially aren’t the best option anymore (we bought them almost 6 years ago at this point so including another brand option that is supposed to be better below, I just don’t have direct experience with them)
What we have used with both girls: Dr. Brown’s Glass Bottles
What I will consider for this babe: Life Factory
BREASTMILK STORAGE IN FREEZER
For both our girls we used the standard plastic bags that all pumps come with for majority of the time. With our 2nd , I started to explore other options and started storing milk in 4 & 8 oz mason bottles with specific lids. It worked great and didn’t crack or leak. Going to do that again. AND also going to try some silicone options. Tagging both so you can see all options. Free from lead, BPA, phthalates!
Stasher bags (we plan to move the cubs from above once frozen into stasher bags for more room in freezer and not having to buy quite as many ice trays – we have used these bags for YEARS for freezing soups and for all the girls snacks etc, love LOVE LOVE them.
TEETHING:
Only 2 things we have ever used and work like a charm:
Essential oil by Ver Vita (Sore to Soar) – to rub on gums
A natural material toy to chomp on.
BABY MONITOR:
Since we moved into the new house, we hardwired a baby monitor with our electrician who is a EMF specialist (Learn more about that project here). But for both our other girls we used this Bebcare monitor. We always wanted to avoid WIFI or Bluetooth and go with the most basic models. Also try placing it as far from baby as possible. This is the one we felt most comfortable with. And if you wanted to be even more mindful – go with the audio only option, even lower emf.
CLOTHING: Organic baby Clothing brands we favor: We generally only buy organic cotton for baby (aiming for GOTS certified, if possible), even for our bigger girls we try for organic cotton when we can. Baby’s skin is very fragile and sensitive and soaks in what we put on it – so it’s important to be mindful that materials are natural and low in chemicals, when you can. Below we linked a few brands we LOVE but also have a full list of baby clothing options in my ShopMy – I add everytime we buy or are eyeing something.
You can find more budget friendly options that are GOTS certified and organic cotton from Burts Bees and Target, I personally just don’t love buying from large corporations, if avoidable. Trust issues? Maybe. I linked a few of them in the ShopMy page, in case you wanted to reference these options.
**Just note, Every clothing item I added here is organic cotton BUT no brand is perfect, always read the materials listed before adding to your cart because I can’t speak for all items on their site.
Pehr – linking a few pieces we purchased for our little babe
Quincy Mae - a few pieces we purchased & a few I’d totally snag if we were having a girl! (why are girl clothes so much cuter?) Also some of the only 100% organic cotton socks I can find!!
waffle bodysuit (if I was having a girl, id be all over this)
knit booties (it’s almost impossible to find socks that are 100% organic cotton, but these booties are!!)
Spilled Milk-
This is a website that hosts almost all intentional small businesses with better practices – prob one of my favorite clothing websites for all my kids ages – they do have primarily girl items. More of investment pieces but love supporting smaller businesses with high quality materials.
Colored Organics - Many basics, good quality
Hanna Andersson - favorite PJS! They aren’t all 100% organic cotton so read before purchasing but the ones that are, such a win!! Linked below for ease. And they last for YEARS.
In baby stage, we like zippers. When older they do the 2 piece sets that are incredible! The girls had these for years and even still have them passed down for baby boy.
AND saw this cutie baby set that could be helpful too if just starting your collection.
Makemake Organics
